Optimization Models

Process Line Thermal Model

The INTEG Process Line Thermal Model (PLTM) supervises and optimizes the control of continuous annealing furnaces used on Galvanizing Lines and Annealing & Pickling Lines.  The model has been implemented on new and existing continuous annealing furnaces for both galvanizing lines and A&P lines.

The Process Line Thermal Model uses mathematical modeling following first principles to calculate the optimum setpoints for the furnace and strip line speed and the optimum timing and method for changing the furnace setpoints and line speed during a product (coil) transition.

The PLTM has been used by a variety of customers, including:

  • Arcelor Mittal Steel (Chesterton, IN)
  • Shanghai Pudong Steel (China)
  • Columbus Coatings Co. (Columbus, OH)
  • Bethlehem Steel (Sparrows Point, MD)
  • DoSol Galva CGL (Hamilton, ON Canada)
  • AK Steel (Rockport, IN)
  • Nucor Steel (Berkeley, SC)
  • Bethlehem Steel (Chesterton, IN)
  • Lukens Steel (Massillon, OH)
  • National Steel (Granite City, IL)
