JNIOR  – Applications & Customers

The JNIOR platform provides an easy and cost effective way to connect, monitor and/or control small sets of process signals and to aggregate and transmit the information over the Ethernet network for stand alone applications or as part of larger applications.

The JNIOR platform consists of a variety of software features and products.   Many of the features are built into the JNIOR operating system, while the advanced features can be easily added by installing standard programs included on the JNIOR CD.  Additional advanced software programs are available for various vertical applications.

Our customers come from a variety of industries and have utilized the JNIOR for a variety of applications.  The JNIOR has been used for stand-alone applications, those with the additional INTEG software modules and others that have custom applications running on a PC or custom software running on the JNIOR.

The JNIOR is a flexible and scalable platform that can meet a variety of needs.  The following provides an overview of some of the types of applications being used by our customers.

Needs Benefit
Small Amount of I/O When a PLC, DCS or other I/O device is too complicated or too expensive and requires a lot of engineering time, the JNIOR has a great set of features that work right out of the box.  Set-up time is measured in minutes.
Legacy Control System When you need to integrate some additional signals for a remote application and don’t want the risk of modifying an existing control system or can’t modify it, the JNIOR saves you the worry, time and money.
Flexible Communications When you need to communicate via a specific industry standard or want to implement several methods, the JNIOR has multiple modes already built-in.
Data Gathering, Logging and Reporting When you need to bring an isolated signal, key performance indicator or environmental measurement to the enterprise for viewing, logging, reporting or any number of other reasons, the JNIOR platform has the right solution to allow you to quickly gather the data and handle it efficiently.  The JNIOR platform scales from local to enterprise wide data handling with software products including the INTEG Operations and Maintenance System (OMS).
Serial-to-Ethernet When you need to add a serial device to your system, the JNIOR not only handles digital and analog I/O, but can easily integrate serial devices.

Where to Use the JNIOR

The JNIOR has been used successfully in a variety of industries and is well-suited for a variety of other industries, including:

  • Industrial Automation
  • Cinema
  • Transportation
  • Utilities (water, gas, electric, steam, etc.)
  • Data Centers (server health, environmental)
  • Building Management (temperature, humidity, etc.)
  • Security (turnstiles, doors, etc.)
  • Building Automation (remote control, environmental)
  • Vehicles (Truck, Auto, Commercial)
  • Retail (interface with bar code scanners, RFID, etc.)

How Our Customers are Using the JNIOR

A partial listing of our customers and their applications includes:

Customer Application
Kodak utilizes the JNIOR to enable their next generation cinema solutions for ad content systems and digital movie systems.  The JNIOR communicates with their Linux based servers to control and interact with the legacy theater automation systems for lights, audio, movie cues and other signals.
With thousands of units deployed across the world, the JNIOR has and continues to be a critical and reliable part of the Kodak solution.
Visioneering is a leading supplier of lighting fixtures and has over 40 production machines throughout their facility producing a variety of parts at any given moment.  Visioneering is implementing the INTEG Operations and Maintenance System (OMS) to track their production efficiency by machine, order and part, and to integrate the real-time data with their Microsoft Dynamics ERP system.

Bombardier is a leading, world-wide supplier of people transportation systems and has selected the JNIOR platform to implement distributed I/O along the rail line to manage remote radios and bring Serial-to-Ethernet connectivity to the radios.
Brant Flour Mills is a small flour producer in Canada that elected to utilize the JNIOR to monitor their silo bin fill levels.  The JNIOR runs a custom application developed by INTEG (in less than a day) that can schedule ‘readings’ of the amount of material in the silo by triggering the “Smart Bob” plumb measurement instrument to take a reading on an user adjustable schedule.  The analog signal is converted to tons of material and an e-mail is sent from the JNIOR to their customer with the current silo level available for pick-up.  The customer is now notified in real-time saving valuable time.
BOEING’s Integrated Defense Systems Group is using multiple JNIORs for a satellite tracking system where they have developed custom software that communicates directly with the JNIORs.

Homeland Integrated Security Systems (HISS) and INTEG Process Group have teamed up to introduce a “complete” solution to collect, analyze and transmit real-time data from remote sensors.  The HISS Cyber Tracker is a “smart box” computer that has cellular and GSP connections and an Ethernet port that can connect to the JNIOR.  With the JNIOR acting as an I/O controller, real-time data can be passed to the Cyber Tracker to make real-time decisions.  The Cyber Tracker can also enable the JNIOR’s web pages and communication protocol to be available on the cellular network for viewing remotely and for integrating into remote computer applications. JNIOR and the CyberTracker have been used in applications for autos, trucks, street sweepers and a variety of other remote and mobile applications.
INTEG Process Group provides Sage Metering customers with a “complete” solution for viewing and logging the instantaneous gas flow and totalized consumption from a Sage meter. The totalized values are displayed and logged on an hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis. The data is stored in CSV (comma separated values) formatted files for easy storage, retrieval and integration with other applications such as Microsoft Excel.
The INTEG Utility Usage Monitoring software package for the JNIOR can be used for all types of utilities, including gas, water, electricity, steam ,etc.
Niagara Water needed to send a signal to their Business System running an Oracle 9iAS server every time a pallet of water was made.  Niagara Water selected the JNIOR and installed multiple ones throughout their plant.  INTEG developed a custom application (in less than 2 days) to run on the JNIOR that issues an HTTP Post whenever an input changes status. The post is sent over the network/Internet to a user definable web server URL configured via the JNIOR Registry System.
Hussey Copper is a leading supplier of copper and has a variety of processing steps needed to make the final copper product.  Hussey Copper is implementing the INTEG Operational and Maintenance System (OMS) to help monitor real-time key performance indicators for its production units.

Data-Command provides a subscription-based service for the monitoring of remote assets.  INTEG’s JNIOR platform is used at remote locations around the country, such as rural water towers and underground sewers.  The JNIORs collect information from remote instrumentation and transmit the data via the Ethernet/Internet to Data-Command’s data centers, where it is stored and securely served up to the user via any standard web browser.  Included in the standard system are user-configurable data display, alarming and historical trending capabilities.
The JNIOR is certified to use the proprietary Data Command protocol implemented on the JNIOR.
The New York Daily News utilizes six JNIORs to optimize their ink tank system for their printing presses by monitoring the ink tank level for 6 tanks, alerting the operators of potential overflow conditions and electronically notifying their ink supplier of low tank levels to receive ink deliveries just in time.  Each JNIOR also communicates with a load cell via the serial port acting as a serial-to-Ethernet server to the PC-based central application.
